Cattle Guard

Cattle guards, also known as cattle grids, Texas gates, or stock gaps, are barriers that keep cattle and other livestock contained while allowing human traffic to easily cross. They are a series of concrete beams that are reinforced with rods and spaced evenly so that livestock feet can’t step on them.  The guards are installed into the ground at sites where human and livestock traffic intersect.

Ranchers and farmers often install cattle guards on their properties, generally at entrances to pastures or along drives and private roads. However, they are also used on public roadways and railroads in rural areas.

Cattle guards can be made from several different materials.  Concrete guards are stronger and more durable than alternatives and don’t easily discolor.  Many different sizes are available.
